Corporate Headshots With A Twist
Hello, ya’ll. I hope your 2011 is starting off safe, sound and with a bang! Ours has taken off running, and I thought I would share a few shoots with you that we did this first week of 2011. Sonya is a return client who’s headshot we did last year for her architectural business. She had a project that came up which required a few more business portraits for her to provide. The request, though was for something “with a twist” meaning not the standard fare. We decided to go with a square crop, bit of a tilt and added our favorite “platinum tone” vs. straight-forward black and white to add even a bit more interest. We shot these in the studio with our regular nice, big softboxes and did one with, and one without a hair-light. When we shoot these types of photos, we always crop very loosely and (of course) start out in color. We do all of our corrections on the loosely cropped, color version and convert at the end. This way if our client, Sonya just happens to pop up a month later and request same shot as a color vertical we can, of course accommodate her. Again, Happy New Year to any and all!

Dare To Be Square
We love square / tilted crops. And so do our clients. Of course it takes a certain look to pull it off and it is not for everyone. We use it when we want to zero right in on the eyes of a subject, and / or if they are asking us for something a little more edgy or specific. We can supply these shots as an add-on to the typical headshot package which would include the more used “4×6″ or “5×7″ type ratios which most web pages use. You will find social media pages such as LinkedIn and Facebook do use a square crop. Better to have us crop us for you, vs. using the online widget they provide (if you agree.) So, don’t be afraid to ask if a nice square and tilted type crop might work for your photo. You can see plenty of samples on our web pages here.
