LinkedIn Awaits Your New Headshot
Howdy, folks.
Well, New Year is here and it is time to hit the ground running. For those in business, these days LinkedIn is the place to be. Thing is, though? There sure a lot of folks who just do not put much thought into their headshot on the LInkedIn website. And, of course as we all know, “first impressions,” etc. So, I’m just sayin.’ We do _tons_ of headshots for LinkedIn, and much, much more. If you are thinking your headshot needs a refresh, please feel free to call and let us show you how easy we can make it happen. Here are a few of the hundreds we have done in the recent past.

Get “A Head” (shot) for 2012
Well? Where did the year go? We have not posted much here lately, just due to time restraints, but next year will be posting more “month-by-month” recent headshots (vs. our web page) and other tidbits, here and there. But for today, I just want to push anyone over the top if they are considering a new professional business headshot for 2012. If you want to be up and running for LinkedIn, Facebook, company archives, printed materials, PR, etc. don’t wait. December is a great time to “get it done.” Think sometime before the 15th. That way when January kicks in, you are already on the ground running. Here are a few from 2011 that we grabbed as quick samples. More, later. Sooner.

Our Photos Featured
Here are a few headshot / portraits we did for the Four Seasons Hotel (Dallas.) One on the left is Chef Katie Natale and on right, Sommelier James Tidwell, who are both featured in their “Summer of Fun Calendar.” Things a little quiet these days (hot, hot, hot in Dallas) but more blog posts coming ASAP.

Stop the Shop
Like a lot of professional headshot photographers we come across the dilemma everyday of exactly “how much” Photoshop retouching is “too much.” Of course this is subjective to our personal style and the client’s expectations. We try to strike a happy medium which is to make them look their best, without going overboard. But we just wanted to share a shot we did the other day which we ended up liking a lot _without_ adding any Photoshop razzle-dazzle. The reason is, pure and simple, “character.” Michael has it written all over his face. We would not want to take a bit of it away, and didn’t. Of course, we did the standard “heads and shoulders” type corporate headshots, which is why he came in. But the minute he walked in our studio I knew he had “the look” that screamed for a total “hand’s off” approach with retouching. All we did here with Michael is to shift our lights around to add a bit of drama with shadows and get in close to give a nice perspective. We know the shot “stood out” for us (intuition rules) and know it will serve him (and us) well for just letting it “be.”

Corporate and Casual Headshots
To continue. Is your corporate headshot photographer versatile and service oriented? If they are not, they well should be. Why not grab a few good casual shots at your corporate headshot session. I guess that may depend on who is paying for it and if your company has any issues with the concept. But if you are already there and don’t mind ponying up a few shekels to purchase a few files we are _always_ happy to give you some breathing room. Because, you know? It’s all about value. And if you show up with one outfit and just want to get in and out quick (not that there is anything wrong with that and if it suits the purpose) we can certainly give you added value to your session with a bit of time invested from you. That’s why we always (at least) ask folks to bring three changes of clothes we can look at when they arrive. Most people are happy to accommodate. Some folks just raid the closet and bring nice combos of stuff that coordinates well and then we take it from there. A lot of times they will arrive at our corporate headshot studio and once we look at what they have we come up with nicer combos that they imagined themselves. Add then at that point combining it with a background to contrast or compliment, and well, you have a hotshot headshot coming! I have to say that sometimes we need a bit more planning in advance of these types of sessions, so it is nice to talk it out a bit first. And, you and your subject want to keep it as simple “as possible” as adding in too many changes can work against you, especially when you start switching backgrounds in and out. Therefore we usually like to stick to one or two outfits and three backgrounds, and / or two or three outfits and two backgrounds. Case in point, the lovely Amber who came in for a professional business portrait for her PR business. She liked our style and felt it fit in well with her business image. When she arrived we tried a number of backgrounds and outfit changes that gave her not only versatility for other future use but value as well. Again. Price. Quality. Service. Pick three. You always can with us.
